Growing Strong, Growing Together

A food-based approach to community building

By working along the median of the Southside Community Gardens, our group aims to take an innovative approach to community building and sustainable practices through the lens of the permaculture movement. Our primary focus is to connect permaculture's three principles of Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share in a way that shows all three can be simultaneously achieved without sacrifice.

Our project will provide a unique opportunity to engage residents and students alike in growing, eating, and celebrating the importance of fresh local food. It will also foster a sense of community that encourages and empowers college students, parents, children, and the elderly to address problems of food insecurity by growing food. In order to do this, we place emphasis on activity-based programs that involve enjoying and caring for community gardening spaces, giving our members the opportunity to be community builders, and fostering a sense of pride in what we can accomplish together.
